Demtoco forecasts better performance for 2020

first_imgThe Demerara Tobacco Company (Demtoco) is anticipating a hike in the sale of cigarettes locally. The expected improvement in spending power comes in light of the development of the country’s lucrative oil and gas industry.“…with the prospect of oil production in 2020, we anticipate improvements in the purchasing power of our consumers which should lead to increasing opportunities for business sustainability and growth,” said Demtoco’s Managing Director, Christopher Brown, in his review published in the 2018 Annual Report.“The economic forecast for Guyana suggests brighter prospects for the country and for Demerara Tobacco Company,” he noted.Last year, sales grew by 4.5 per cent from $6.1 billion in 2017 to $6.4 billion in 2018. Demtoco said this resulted mainly from its consumers “appreciating and choosing our brands, versus the illicit competition”.Despite the fact of an increasing presence of the illicit trade, the company said it was able to maintain volume stability relative to 2017.In fact, Demtoco’s Bristol, Pall Mall and Dunhill brands all posted increased sales volumes, contributing to the growth experienced in 2018.Even as it anticipates an increase in cigarette sales, the company said it continues to support laws and regulations prohibiting the sale of these products to anyone under the legal minimum age of 18.In order to achieve this, the company worked directly with retailers to uphold the law and it even supported distributors in providing training and point-of-sale materials for use by retailers to help uphold the minimum age laws.Cigarette smoking harms nearly every organ of the body and causes many diseases, according to the Centre for Disease Control and Prevention. In fact, smoking is the leading preventable cause of death in the USA.“We understand the concerns about our products and are working hard to conduct our business responsibly, in an industry seen by many as controversial,” Demtoco said.Demtoco last year recorded a 14.4 per cent increase in profits before tax, making a stunning rebound after five consecutive years of decline.Chairman Marcus Steele attributed this success to the firm’s strong leadership and its key business partnerships, notwithstanding the challenge it now faces with complying with the new regulations and the challenges it continues to face with the illicit trade.last_img read more

Fantasy Football: Which new strikers should you own?

first_imgGaming Fantasy Football: Are Aubameyang and the five other Deadline Day strikers worth owning? Kevin DeVries Fantasy Football Writer 22:01 2/2/18 FacebookTwitterRedditcopy Comments(0) Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang Arsenal Getty Gaming Premier League Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang Olivier Giroud Leicester City v Swansea City Brighton & Hove Albion v West Ham United Arsenal v Everton Crystal Palace v Newcastle United Liverpool v Tottenham Hotspur Watford v Chelsea Swansea City Everton Leicester City West Ham United Brighton & Hove Albion Arsenal Crystal Palace Newcastle United Tottenham Hotspur Liverpool Chelsea Watford Our Fantasy writer looks looks at the ownability of all of the strikers who moved on Deadline Day including the Gabonese, Giroud, Slimani, and more One of the biggest frustrations in Fantasy this season has been the ineffectiveness of many high profile forwards. For example, only two of last year’s five highest scoring forwards (Kane and Lukaku) currently sit in the top five in the Goal game this season.Even Kane, with his ridiculous 21 goals, has more blanked in more matches (13) than he has scored (11). So where can owners turn? Who can save us from the frustration of watching our Fantasy strikers go goalless week after week?Fortunately, a lot of forwards changed clubs on Deadline Day. There are now six strikers who have either been added to the game or have changed clubs, and with those new clubs come new Fantasy opportunities. Below I rank the new, incoming forwards in order of ownability, and discuss the impact they could have in your team. Article continues below Editors’ Picks Lyon treble & England heartbreak: The full story behind Lucy Bronze’s dramatic 2019 Liverpool v Man City is now the league’s biggest rivalry and the bitterness is growing Megan Rapinoe: Born & brilliant in the U.S.A. A Liverpool legend in the making: Behind Virgil van Dijk’s remarkable rise to world’s best player Goal-Fantasy-Football-registertowinPierre-Emerick Aubameyang – Arsenal, £8.5mThe Gabonese forward stole all the headlines on Deadline Day when he made his move from Borussia Dortmund. His goalscoring record is ridiculous, having come first or second in the Golden Boot race every season he played in the Bundesliga. He should get plenty of opportunities to put the ball in the net for Arsenal as well, considering they sit top five in both assists (36) and chances created (313) this season. How Aubameyang and Lacazette will both fit on the pitch remains to be seen, but it’s hard to imagine Wenger sitting either considering their profile and cost.Olivier Giroud – Chelsea, £6.7mThis move still seems a bit strange but, considering the phenomenally poor form of Alvaro Morata, Chelsea had to do something. In fact, all of Chelsea’s strikers combined for just one goal in the last 10 matches.Giroud has always had an air of consistency about him, scoring more than 10 goals in every Premier League season, but he is yet to hit more than 16 in a campaign. It’s hard to buy the Frenchman without knowing the role he’ll fill at his new club, but he could be involved as soon as this weekend considering the injury to Morata, departure of Batshuayi, and the growing pressure facing manager Antonio ConteIslam Slimani Leicester CityIslam Slimani – Newcastle, £6.0mHis move was obviously overshadowed by those at the bigger clubs, but Slimani is the sleeper choice for the rest of the season. He managed seven goals and four assists last season for Leicester despite starting just 13 matches which is not exactly a poor return. He does come into Newcastle with a thigh injury, but he should easily lock down the striker spot in Rafa Benitez’s starting eleven the second he’s fit.Andre Ayew – Swansea, £6.0mAyew, like Slimani, should have no problem quickly establishing himself as a starter at his new club. Swansea would be best served playing him up front considering they have scored the fewest goals (18) in the Premier League this season. There is a chance that he may be pushed out onto the wing but, at such a cheap price, he should have plenty of Fantasy value regardless.Fantasy forwards graphicAlexander Sorloth – Crystal Palace, £5.5mSorloth comes into Palace as a bit of an unknown, but physically seems to have the requisite size to handle Premier League defenders. He boasted excellent stats in the Danish league where he sat top five in both goals and assists this season, and second in combined goals. However, whilst he is an intriguing talent, it’s hard to see him beating Benteke to the starting striker role.Jordan Hugill – West Ham, £5.8mHugill feels like a depth purchase to make up for the amount of injuries to West Ham’s front line right now. It’s possible that the former Preston man could get some substitute appearances this month but, unless he does something dramatic, it’s likely he will fall down the pecking order when the Hammers get back to full strength. goal-fantasy-football-banner Check out Goal’s Premier League 2019-20 fantasy football podcast for game tips, debate and rivalries.last_img read more
