Syracuse bounces back with strong 3-0 victory against Niagara

first_img Published on August 26, 2017 at 1:51 pm Contact David: ddschnei@syr.edu After securing a 5-0 lead in the opening set, Syracuse (2-1) never looked back in a 3-0 shutout win against Niagara (0-2) on Saturday morning at the Women’s Building.Amber Witherspoon led the Orange with a game-high 11 kills along with a .667 hitting percentage, while freshman Ella Saada finished with 16 digs, five kills, an assist and an ace. Jalissa Trotter, coming off a 35-assist performance against Grand Canyon on Friday, produced yet again for SU, totaling a game-high 19 assists.The Orange boasted a balanced attack during an opening 25-16 first-set victory. Saada and Witherspoon each pitched in two kills. Offensive errors were at a minimum, an issue that plagued SU in its loss to Grand Canyon.The second set was dominated by Witherspoon. The senior middle blocker totaled seven kills in the second set alone. Her performance jumpstarted a 12-2 run that saw the Orange go from three down to seven up in an eventual 25-20 set victory.Niagara pushed Syracuse to the limit in the third set. After falling behind 12-4, the Purple Eagles went on an 8-2 run. The two teams exchanged points throughout until Niagara established a 22-20 lead. With a potential fourth set looming in the distance, SU rode a 5-0 run to win the set, and the game, 25-22. 2015 Star Soccer Fiesta: Adebayor joins Gyan for this year’s charity event

first_imgTotteham striker and Togolese international Emmanuel Adebayor has partnered Black Stars captian Asamoah Gyan to host this year’s Star Soccer Fiesta – an annual charity event climaxed with a fun game between professional players and Ghanaian entertainers.The event which began on a small scale back in 2007 in Dansoman is making a return after a two-year absence.This year’s event will span a two-day period from June 21 with the main event – the fun match – taking place at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi.The 2015 Star Soccer Fiesta was launched in Kumasi on Wednesday with organizers, Gold Star Consult revealing the several sub-events outlined including an exciting road show from Accra to Kumasi and donations to be made.“The event all start on June 20 where the stars from Kumasi will be making a road trip to Kumasi in their various flashy cars,” CEO of Gold Star Consult Samuel Anim Addo said at the press conference to launch the event.“The delegation will make stops at vantage points to interact with the fans, sign autographs and then have photo sessions before their arrival in Kumasi. “In Kumasi, there will be a cleanup exercise in line with the theme of this year’s Star Soccer Fiesta which is to ‘Improve Good Sanitation for Better Health’.“Then there will be donations made by the Asamoah Gyan Foundation and that of Emmanuel Adebayor before the fun match itself on June 21.”Black Stars players like Andre Ayew, Emmanuel Agyemang-Badu, Jonathan Mensah, Baba Abdul Rahman will be lining up for the professional players against the entertainers who will be featuring the likes of Samini, Shatta Wale, Stonebwoy, D-Black and Tinny.Former Ghana international players and other international stars both on the football and entertainment front are expected to be part of this event.  Watch Photos of the Launch in Kumasi on WednesdayCEO of Gyan Foundation briefing the press in KumasiStar Soccer Fiesta team in Kumasi for the launch Star Soccer Fiesta team return to Accra afte rthe launchlast_img read more
